Linda Kay “Katie” VanMeter, 76, of Wellersburg, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland.

She was born May 20, 1946, in Meyersdale, PA; she was the daughter of  the late Viola May (Emerick) Gerhart and Homer Wilson Gerhart.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, James A. VanMeter Sr., her daughter, Tammy Michelle VanMeter, and her sister, Bonnie Tressler.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Amy L. (VanMeter) Long, and husband, Wendall “Frank” Long of Wellersburg, her son James A. VanMeter Jr, and wife, Sara A. (Shrewsbury) VanMeter of Wellersburg. Four grandchildren, Alyssa M. Long, Addie L. VanMeter, Amber N. Long, and Parker J. VanMeter. Also two sisters, Judy M. VanMeter, and husband David D. VanMeter of Corriganville, MD, Patty S. Aman, and husband ,Tim Aman of Calimont, PA; two aunts, Nancy Keefer and Mary Reese; and two very special friends, Francis Lease and Kathleen Petenbrink.

Katie enjoyed having family and friends close by. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member Zion Community Church and a graduate of Meyersdale High School.

Per Katie’s request, there will be a private graveside service.

The family will have a celebration of life picnic at a later time.
