Kenneth L. Merkel, 73, of Ellerslie passed away Thursday August 8, 2024 at home with his family by his side.

Born April 19, 1951, in Cumberland; he was a son of the late Darris Sr. and Marian (Logsdon) Merkel. Also preceded in death by a brother, Terry L. Merkel.

Survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol Sue (Waltman) Merkel, whom he married August 1, 1975; children, Kara L. Merkel and Lucas J. Merkel all of Ellerslie; a granddaughter, Marianna; brother, Darris “Butch” Merkel and wife Cecelia, Hyndman, sister, Judith Beals and husband Rholand, Hyndman, Mary Gray and husband Glenn, Ocala, FL; several nieces and nephews.

Kenny was a laborer with the Local 616 Laborers Union. He served in the US Army and was a member of the Kennells Mill Sportsmen’s Club and the Barrellville Outdoor Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, and his passion was hunting.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Monday August 12, 2024, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday August 13, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ken Korns officiating. Viewing one hour prior.

Burial will follow Sunset Memorial, Cumberland.
