Obituary

Betty Lou (Kennard) Emerick, 81, of Hyndman Went to be with the Lord Friday January 10, 2014 at home surrounded by her family.
Born October 1, 1932 in Cumberland, MD; she was a daughter of the late Harold Perrin and Esther (Larew) Kennard. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janice Lee Emerick.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Kenneth Emerick, whom she married Feb 3, 1950; Children, Carolyn Lewis and husband Raymond, Barbara Reed and husband David, both of Hyndman, Susan Lee and husband Robert of Cumberland, David Emerick and wife Donna, Jeffrey Emerick and wife Tammy both of Hyndman, Marsha Johnson and husband Donald of Bryans Road, MD, Ronald Emerick and wife Cheri of Hyndman; sisters, Mary Phillippi of Prescott, AZ; JoAnn Domenico of Martinsburg, WV; 17 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren and her faithful furry companion, Mindy.
Betty lived in Cumberland until 1945 when her family moved to Stringtown. She had attended East Side School and Fort Hill in Cumberland. She graduated from Hyndman High in 1950.
Betty was a homemaker; she also worked for the Red Cross and was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital for 5 years. She worked at Emerick’s Meats for 10 years. Betty enjoyed reading, cake decorating, working with flowers and ceramics. She bowled in the Coffee League and helped with remedial reading at Hyndman Primary School. She was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Ellerslie where she helped with Sunday School and Bible School.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at Calvary Bible Church, S. Gardner Ave., Ellerslie, MD, on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastors Ken Korns and Greg Miller officiating .
Burial will follow at Palo Alto Hilltop Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hyndman Londonderry Public Library, PO Box 733, Hyndman, PA 15545.
