Obituary

Hyndman, PA Christy E. “Chris” Stoner Jr. , 86, passed away Tuesday June 10, 2014 at WMHS Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 18, 1927 in Pittsburgh.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne F. (Fait) Stoner, whom he married August 9, 1953; children, Geri L. Spatafore of Annapolis, MD. R. Scott Stoner and wife Toni of Atlanta, GA, Christy Stoner III and wife Kathy of Asheville, NC, grandchildren, Douglas Spatafore Jr., Leigh Spatafore, Chris Stoner IV, Skyler Spatafore, Colin Stoner, Dylan Stoner and Sydney Stoner.
He is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Douglas Spatafore Sr.
Chris was a graduate of Verona High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Slippery Rock University and a master’s from Frostburg State. While at slippery Rock he was a 3 sport athlete. He spent most of his career as an educator and coach of basketball and football. He taught at Hyndman, Somerset, East Huntingdon, Southmoreland, Mt. Pleasant and Bedford School Districts and retired from Bedford Area School District in 1982. Chris was highly regarded and made a positive impact on many students. He was the recipient of the Special Community Award from the Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame.
He also served in the US Navy and was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Buffalo Mills. He spent many summers at Shawnee State Park as the head lifeguard.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Thursday 6 from 8 PM
A funeral service will be conducted at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7139 Hyndman Rd, Buffalo Mills on Friday at 2 p.m. with The Rev. Ryan K. Viands officiating.

Burial will follow at Milligan Cove Cemetery.
