Obituary

Buffalo Mills, PA – W. Homer Duppstadt, 97, of Buffalo Mills, PA went to be with his Lord, June 28 2016, at UPMC Altoona, PA.
 
Born May 18, 1919 in Buffalo Mills, PA, he was a son of the late William Oren and Stella (Tomlinson) Duppstadt. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jacob Sylvester, who only lived a few hours; and sons-in-law, Jack Brownfield and Edward Frostad.
 
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, E. Irene (Ringler) Duppstadt, whom he married April 20, 1946; daughters, Joyce Frostad of Anchorage, AK; Carol and husband, Bill Roudabush, of State College, PA and Bowie, MD; sons, Paul and wife, Susan (Crilly), of Buffalo Mills, PA; David and wife, Megan (Woods), of Sylva, NC and 8 grandchildren:  Stefanie, Brian, Matthew, Shane, Kevin, Adrienne, Sarah and Maggie and 8 great-grandchildren:  Brayden, Tyler, Taia, Bryce, Parker, Brady, Isabella, Thomas and many extended family.
 
Sgt. Duppstadt proudly served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in WW II from 1942-1946.
Pastor Duppstadt served multiple Lutheran parishes in Bedford County since 1947. He was still active as Pastor of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Fairhope, PA where he ministered since 1973.
 
At his 75th Class Reunion at Shippensburg University on June 3, 2016, he was recognized as the oldest alumni present, class of 1941. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from then Shippensburg State Teacher’s College, and later earned a Master of Secondary Education & Biology in 1960 from Penn State and a Master of Arts in Biology in 1966 from WVU. He took many college courses at the University of Hawaii; Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg, PA; Penn State; Pitt; WVU; and Frostburg State University. He never stopped learning while accumulating 520 college credits—275 of those in Biology and 68 in Religion.
 
Homer worked his family farm from 1950-1988, taught Science at Chestnut Ridge HS from 1955-1973 as well as science courses at West Liberty State College, Berlin HS; and Frostburg State University. He co-authored 2 botany books and contributed articles to multiple botany publications. He served as Herbarium Assistant at WVU from 1974-1992. In addition to being a farmer, teacher, Pastor and lifelong learner he enjoyed blacksmithing, gardening, cutting wood, and his many travels with and to visit his children and grandchildren.
 
 
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Bishop Michael Rhyne officiating

Followed by interment with parents and brother in Osterburg Community Cemetery. Military Honors by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
