Obituary

Rev. John Albert Logan, Jr., age 69, of Buffalo Mills, PA, passed away peacefully at home on July 17, 2025, with his wife, Rev. Leona Logan, by his side. A devoted pastor, storyteller, and craftsman, John served in the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church for over 40 years. He was known for his vivid sermons, wisdom, wit, and deep heart for God.

John earned his B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and his M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He faithfully served congregations in Emerickville; Littles Corners/Bethany/Hamlin Chapel; Brush Valley; and Acme/Barren Run.

He was the proud father of Patrick Logan (Jackie), the son who held his heart. Their bond was built on respect, shared projects, and a quiet understanding. Officiating Patrick and Jackie’s wedding was one of John’s greatest joys. He was also a loving stepfather to Grant Cunningham, Lance Maria (Cunningham), and Roxine  (Alex) Harne, and a beloved “Papa John” to ten grandchildren.

John had many passions that reflected both his creativity and his love for others. He was a gifted woodworker, crafting intricate puzzle boxes that turned Christmas into a joyful family tradition. He found peace riding his dual-sport motorcycle through country roads and wooded trails, saying he felt closest to God in creation. He also loved stained glass, Celtic music, and the thrill of dirt biking in his younger years.

He is survived by his sister, Sandra Zebrak, and nieces, Kristen and Katie Zebrak. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Dorothy Logan, and brother-in-law, Tom Zebrak.

John and Leona shared nearly 20 years of marriage and ministry, love rooted in faith and trust, marked by joy, strength, and shared calling. Where she moved with passion and momentum, he brought steady strength and clarity, an anchor in every sense. Together they hiked, gardened, kayaked, and served through The Least of These Ministries in the Dominican Republic, caring for Haitian families with humility and compassion.

A memorial service will be held at Brush Valley Community Church, 200 Valley View Road, Homer City, PA 15748, just off Route 259 South, on Saturday, September 6, at 1:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Robert Zilhaver.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Least of These Ministries, P.O. Box 2824, Westminster, MD 21158, or www.leastofthesemin.org.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
