Obituary

Robert H. “Bob” Smith, 67, of Hyndman passed away Monday, September 17, 2012, at UPMC Bedford Hospital with his family by his side.
Born May 11, 1945, in Cumberland, MD; he was a son of Earl H. and Izola (Imler) Smith. He is preceded in death by his father, mother in law, Charlotte Lehr and a grandson, Tyler Leister.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Charlotte (Lehr) Smith, whom he married November 26, 1965; a son Jeff and wife Linda of Hyndman; a daughter ,Shelly Leister and husband Shawn “Bif” of Hyndman; mother, Izola Smith of Ellerlie; brothers, Earl Smith and wife Shirley of LaVale, MD, Rick Smith and wife Debbie of Ellerslie, MD; a sister, Brenda Scritchfield and husband William of Ellerslie, three granddaughters, Shania Leister, Megan and Alexandra Smith; a father in law, Stanley Lehr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was a 1963 graduate of Mount Savage High School and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at the Celanese and Alliant Techsystems as a maintenance worker, retiring with 30 years of service.
He was a life member of the Oscar Jordan Post 7375 VFW and Ridgley, WV Post 6452 VFW; the Kennells Mill Sportsmen’s Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends, but most of all spending time with his granddaughters.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Rev. E. Robert Nagy officiating.
Burial will follow at Cooks Mills Cemetery with Military Honors by the Ft. Bedford Honor Guard.
The family would like to thank the staffs of WMHS Rehab and Pennknoll Rehab for their work during his stay at the facilities. And Ashley Logsdon for in home care.
