Obituary

Buffalo Mills, PA – Cathy L. Benton, 71, passed away Thursday October 10, 2024 at UPMC Western Maryland.

Born August 11, 1953, in Cumberland; she was the only child of the late Frank and Bette (Coleman) Burkett. Also preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Sheldon K. Benton, on March 20, 2024.

Survived by sons, Jeffrey Sturtz (Trisha)of Cumberland, Jeremy Sturtz (Susan)of Hyndman; stepsons, Timothy Benton of Breezewood; Sheldon Adam Benton (Christi) of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Garrett, Baylee, Paige, and Landon, Megan, Isaac and Sierra and step grandson, Tyrin.

Cathy was a graduate of Hyndman High School and Cathermine’s Business School.  She was a paramedic for 34 years and worked at Cumberland Memorial Hospital on the second floor as a unit secretary, was a paramedic for Bedford Ambulance and retired from Raystown Ambulance. She was a member of the Everett Sportsmen’s Club and taught Hunters Education with her husband Sheldon. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, riding four-wheelers and helping with Sheldon with fireworks shoots.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Monday October 14, 2024, from 6 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday October 15, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rod Spiker officiating. Viewing one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be private at Hyndman Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your local ambulance company or Bedford County Humane Society.
