Obituary

Ellerslie, MD – David L. “Sam” Kendall, Jr., 89, of Ellerslie, passed away Sunday August 17, 2025 at UPMC Western Maryland surrounded by his family.

Born October 10, 1935 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late David Lewis and Ethyl (Wisler) Kendall.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Janet Kendall, son, Leonard “Lenny” Kendall and brother, Mike Kendall.  Also survived by his daughters, Tonyia Miller and husband Roger of Thurmont, Angela Kendall Ashenfelter of Ellerslie; grandchildren, Aaron Kendall and wife Samantha, Daniel Miller and wife Elizabeth, Samantha Hook and husband Codie; great grandchildren Benson Kendall, Jovie Kendall, Griffin Miller, Colton Hook, and Levi Hook.  Sister Nance DeVore of Milledgeville, GA and daughter in laws Maria Kendall and Tina Kendall.

Sam was a graduate of Hyndman High School after which he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for two years.  He then worked for Monumental Insurance before being employed by the Kelly Springfield Plant where he was a Supervisor in the Curing Room. To those who knew him he led a simple life. He was blessed with a wonderful community, friends, and church family and took great pride in all.  Most precious to him was his family and his home.

Friends will be received at the Calvary Bible Church, 13901 S. Gardner Ave, Ellerslie, MD on Thursday, August 28, 2025. from 1 to 2pm, where a service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastors Greg Miller and Ken Korns officiating.  Burial will follow at Madley Cemetery, Buffalo Mills, PA.

The family would like to thank Steve Wisler, Mike DeVore, Todd Lybarger, Pastor Ken Korns, Steve Trexler, Charlie Cook, Seth Cook, Miriam Sacco, Jenny Beal and the Calvary Bible Church Family for all their help.
