Obituary

Hyndman, PA – Gerald L. Thomas, 81, of Hyndman went to be with the Lord Thursday March 5, 2020 at UPMC Western Maryland.
Born February 11, 1939 in Hyndman; he was a son of the late Marshall Thomas and Mary (Price) Thomas Evans. He was also preceded in death, stepfather, Fred Evans, in-laws, Florence and Bob Sarver and Luther and Shirley Chaney, sister, Glenna Flanagan, a son-in-law, Jeff Emerick, sister-in-law, Sharon Chaney; brother-in-law, Lynn Cook, and great granddaughter, Ava Jefferys.
Survived by his wife of 58 years, Violet M. (Chaney) Thomas, whom he married June 11, 1961; children, Tammy Emerick of Hyndman and friend Mark Schry, Cathy Bingman and husband Ed, Jeff Thomas and wife Candy of Buffalo Mills, Mary Thomas and fiancé Fred Evans all Hyndman, sisters, Verna Sipple and husband Forrest of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Jane Cook  of Uniontown, brother, Donald Thomas and wife Maxine of Shingleton, Mich.; grandchildren, Tessa Stahlman, Tara Robison, Brandon, Levi, Nathan, and Jordan Bingman, Cory, Garrett and Amber Thomas, Grant Sisk, Hope Jefferys; great grandchildren, Tristan, Riley, Bailey, Kendal, Taylor, Hallie, Camden, Aubree, Alivia, Ian, Blake; and one great-great grandchild arriving in May. Also by sisters-in-law, Pauline Long, Ruth Close, Brenda Flanagan, Darlene Twigg, Patsy Logue, Bonnie Chaney; brothers-in-law, Gene Chaney, Bill Chaney, Daryl Sarver, Kevin Chaney and Roger Chaney.
Gerald was a graduate of Hyndman High School and served in the US Army where he was an MP in the 4th Platoon, Ft Jackson.  He retired from PPG after 30 years of service. He was a gold member of the Kennells Mill Sportsmen’s Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, attended sporting events of family, weekends at the cabin, enjoyed meeting the breakfast club for PPG retirees at Hobos.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ken Korns officiating. Viewing one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
