Obituary

Hyndman, PA – Helen Jean Evans, age 92, passed away on June 13 2021 at UPMC – Western Maryland. Known as Jean, she was born on May 30, 1929 in Cumberland, MD to the late John Aloysius and Ida Grace (Madden) Cavan.
She married Ray V. Evans on February 27, 1948, who preceded her in death on September 3, 2010. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Ethel McCormick, Sarah Frances Burkett, and nephew John McCormick, Jr.
Surviving are a brother, John E. Cavan, Winchester, VA, sons, Gregory R. Evans, with whom she resided in Hyndman, David A. Evans and wife Brenda, Tucson, AZ and a daughter, Gail L. Sides and husband John, Vail, AZ.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Nathaniel Beyor, Palos Verdes Estates, CA, Matthew Sides, Vail, AZ, Alex and wife Casey Evans, and Erik Evans, all of Tucson, AZ.
She was Grammy to Parker Jolene, Thea Violet, and Landon Bodie Beyor, and Levi Ray Evans.
Jean enjoyed the love of these nieces and nephews, Dennis and Patti McCormick, Terry McCormick, Rosemary McCormick, K. Patrick and Julie McCormick, Morgan and Cheryl McCormick, and Sandy McCormick, wife of the late John McCormick. Also surviving are Karen and Steve Sides, Polly and Tom Groves, and Glenna and Ronald Bridges.
She was raised in Cumberland, MD and State Line, PA, and attended St. Patrick School and Hyndman High School. Her life was centered around her family, church, and community. Jean was employed in the EKG department of Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, MD, and retired in 1991 after 23 years of service.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Sunday, June 20, 2021 from 2 to 5 pm.
A funeral service will be conducted at Hyndman Grace United Methodist Church, 222 Schellsburg Street on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 1 pm with Rev. Fred Zickefoose, officiating.
Burial will follow at Cooks Mills Cemetery, Hyndman with Dennis McCormick, Terry McCornick, Patrick McCormick, Morgan McCormick, Robert Scaife, and Rod Shaffer serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers are John E. Cavan, Jennifer and Nathaniel Beyor, Mathew Sides, Alex and Casey Evans, and Erik Evans.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hyndman-Londonderry Public Library, 161 Clarence Street, Hyndman.
