Bette Burkett
Buffalo Mills, PA Bette Burkett, 90, of Buffalo Mills, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Pennknoll Village, Everett.
She was born December 17, 1923, in Midland, MD; she was a daughter of Michael and Roseanne Elizabeth (Robertson) Coleman. On May 24, 1947 in Frostburg, MD, she married Frank E. Burkett. He was the love of her life, and they were married for 65 years when he died March 28, 2013. She has missed him greatly since then.
She graduated from Central High School in Lonaconing, MD in 1941. During WWII she worked at the Celanese Corporation in the lab. It was there she met Frank, after he was discharged from the Army. After the birth of the daughter, she was a “stay at home Mom.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, three sisters, Ellen in infancy, Beatrice Kelley, and Norma Thomas. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Stanton and an infant boy who died at birth.
He is survived by a daughter, Cathy, married to Sheldon Benton of Everett; two grandsons, Jeffrey Sturtz and girlfriend, Kelly Hillegas of Cumberland and Jeremy Sturtz married to Susan Reed Thompson of Hyndman. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Garrett; Baylee; Paige and Landon Sturtz; two step grandchildren, Megan and Isaac Thompson; a sister, Marion Winner of Midland and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family was her passion.
She and Frank owned several antique cars, and belonged to the Bedford County Antique Car Club. They were also on the bowling league at the LaVale Bowler until they were almost in their 90s. They loved to travel and took many cruises and trips.
Bette belonged to the Gravel Pit United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H Zeigler Funeral Home Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman, on Thursday from 7 to 9p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00a.m.
Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery.
