Doris L. Shaffer, 85, of Hyndman went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Lions Center, Cumberland, MD.

Born November 11, 1926, in Hyndman; she was a daughter of the late Irvin C. and Amelia K. (Bruck) Burkett.

On July 2, 1949, she married Russell E. “Pete” Shaffer. He preceded her in death in 1985. She was also preceded in death by a special friend, Earl Clites, in 2003. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by an infant sister, a brother and five sisters.

She is survived by sons, John R. Shaffer and wife Vicki of Massillon, OH, and Rodney I. Shaffer and wife Sharon of Hyndman; three grandchildren, Abby Smith and husband Adam of Massillon, OH, Joey Emerick and husband Matt of Wellersburg, PA, Adam Shaffer and wife Shandi of Massillon, OH; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Ringler of Cumberland MD, and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Shaffer was a member of Grace United Methodist Church; the Hyndman Senior Center and the Order of Eastern Star. She was a homemaker.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Harold Bowser officiating.

Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions to the Hyndman Senior Center or the Hyndman Area Rescue Squad.
