Hyndman, PA Freeman Earl Miller, 74, of Hyndman, went to be with the Lord May 8, 2013, at WMHS Regional Medical Center.

Born January 12, 1939, in Fairhope; He was a son of the late Mahlon Ray and Mary Leora (Sarver) Miller Smith. He was also preceded in death by a step-father, Irvin A. Smith.

Survived by his wife of 46 years, Myrtle Jean (Holler) Miller; a daughter, Leora Alice Hernandez and husband Jose of Silver Spring, MD; son, James Earl Miller and wife Cheri (Kitting) of Rockwood, PA; grandchildren, Esteban Eligio Hernandez, Amanda Jean Hernandez, Daniel Freeman Hernandez, and Sergio Antonio Hernandez, all of whom he loved dearly; a brother, Melvin C. Miller and wife Josey of New Brunswick, MD; sisters, Fairy M. Price and husband Ellis “Junior” of Bedford, Gloria F. Burkett of Bedford, R. Kay Kamauf of Hyndman, Carol A. Sarver and husband Charles of Ellerslie, and many nieces and nephews.
He was a 1956 graduate of Hyndman Londonderry High School. He worked in a nursery in Painesville, OH for several years and then moved back to the Hyndman Area where he worked for Smith’s Garden, Mallow’s Garden and Landscaping, and various construction jobs around the Cumberland area.

In 1966 he married and moved to Silver Spring, MD. Freeman worked at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda for 29 years. He retired in 1994. NIH is a complex with over 40,000 employees on a 250 acre campus which has over 27 miles of sideways plus roads and parking lots. He was the Ground Maintenance Supervisor for many of those years.
In 1998 he and his wife moved back to Buffalo Mills. Freeman spent much of his life volunteering for various organizations. He was a member of First United Church of Christ and served as Past Treasurer, on the Consistory, and Sunday School Supervisor, President of the Consistory of Hyndman-Corriganville-Ellerslie Charge, member of Hyndman Londonderry Lions Club, where he served as Past President and Treasurer, Vice President of NARFE Chapter 2093, member of the Federal Manager’s Association, membership co-chair and board member of the Hyndman Senior Center, advisory boards of the RSVP and Pennknoll Village, and volunteered at the Hyndman Londonderry Library. He also was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader.

Freeman was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed greatly by his family.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with the Lion’s Club service at 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at the First United Church of Christ, Market Street, Hyndman on Saturday, 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Tomislav Dosch officiating.
