Freeman P. Deist

Freeman P. Deist, 91, went to be with the Lord, Monday, May 31, 2010, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born August 3, 1918, in Somerset County, he was a son of the late William C. and Nettie (Poorbaugh) Deist. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mariana (Kooser) Deist, and a son, Freeman P. Deist Jr.

He is survived by a daughter, Marianne Logue and husband Donley of Manns Choice; a brother, Donald W. Deist of Fairhope, a sister, Margaret Jane Ayers of Poland OH; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a very special friend, Bonnie Bridges of Hyndman.

Mr. Deist was a Registered Pharmacist. He was the former co-owner of Deist Drug Store in Hyndman and Deist Pharmacy in Frostburg, Grantsville and Lonaconing, MD. He was also a pharmacist for the Potomac Valley Pharmacy in Hyndman. At one point Mr. Deist was the oldest working pharmacist in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Deist was a 1935 graduate of Salisbury High School and a 1943 Graduate of the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Pharmacy. He was a member of the Hyndman First United Church of Christ, the Somerset Lodge #315 F&AM, and the Hyndman Londonderry Lions Club.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Tomislav Dosch officiating.
