Harold William Meyers, 85, of Hyndman, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at WMHS Regional Medical Center.

Born November 29, 1927, in Rockwood, PA; he was a son of the late Augustus W. and Anna (Walker) Meyers.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Charles William Meyers; and a sister, Virginia M. Cole.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leila (Siegner) Meyers, whom he married May 3, 1950; daughters, Barbara Bingman and husband James of Shermans Dale, PA; Zina McKenzie and husband Gary of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Bonnie Hicks of North Platte, NE, Gavin Bingman and wife Yuriko of Lincoln, NE, Benjamin McKenzie and wife Yvonne of Shemans Dale, PA, Kayla McKenzie of Winston Salem, NC; two great grandchildren, Noah Rotz, North Platte, NE, Tristan Bingman, Lincoln NE; a sister, Dorothy McMahon of Midland, MD; brothers, Albert Meyers of Barton, MD, Eugene Meyers and wife Phyllis of Palmyra, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Meyers was a WWII US Navy veteran on active duty from 1944 to 1947, among other ships; he served on the USS Franklin.

He retired from the Celanese Fiber Corporation where he worked from the time he was 15 years old.

He also served as an ombudsman for the textile union workers.

Harold owned his own tandem dump truck and hauled stone for many years, as well as working as a carpenter.

He was a wonderful provider for his family.

He loved gardening and the outdoors.

He and his wife attended the First United Church of Christ.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Tomislav Dosch officiating.

Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
