Bedford, PA  Harry W. Hyde, 69, of Bedford, formerly of Hyndman, died April 21, 2011, at his home.

Born July 21, 1941, in Manns Choice, PA; he was a son of Walter C. and Minnie Bell (Gooden) Hyde. He is preceded in death by his mother; a son, Scott Hyde; and a brother, William Hyde.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kay A. (Atwell) Hyde, whom he married June 10, 1969; children, Annette DeVore and husband, Russell of Hyndman, Cindy Hyde of Sterling, VA, Robert Hyde of Tampa, FL, Michele Shroyer and husband, Markwood of Mt. Wolf, Mark Hyde of Lexington, KY, and Zachary Hyde of Bedford; grandchildren, Andrew and Nichole Gardelle, Emily DeVore, Samantha, Sarah and Jonathon Shroyer; a great grandson, Bryce Gardelle; sister, Phyllis Helmick, Canaan Valley, WV; and a brother, Daniel Hyde, Richardson, TX

Mr. Hyde retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Co. / Goodyear Tire Co. after 37 years of service. He was also the Assistant Chief of Police for the Hyndman Borough for 15 years and served on the Hyndman Borough Council from 1986 to 1995, acting as Council Vice President for 9 years. Harry helped Victor Atwell install the first Cable TV Service in Hyndman.

He was an avid fisherman and spent his summers at his cottage on Sand Lake in Elgin, Ontario, Canada. He also enjoyed deer hunting.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Don Harr and Rev. Dan Swankler officiating.
