Howard John May Jr.
Bedford, PA – Howard John May Jr., 88, formerly of Buffalo Mills, died Tuesday July 16, 2013 at Colonial Courtyard.
Born January 12, 1925, in Bard, PA; he was a son of the late John and Evelyn (Holler) May. He was also preceded in death by a wife, Reda Catherine(Turner) May in 1977; and a grandson, Jared Lafferty.
He is survived by his wife, Faye (Lehman) May; children, Ron May and wife Sandy of Saxton, Ed May and wife Sharon of Buffalo Mills, Carrol Kennell and husband Dan of Hyndman; step children, John Clifford Elder and wife Nancy of Atlantic City NJ and Amy McCollum and husband Van of Cumming, GA; brothers, Harry. May of Knoxville, TN, Carl May and wife Gretta of Hyndman, Donald May and wife Mary of Buffalo Mills, Thomas May of Florida; a sister, Wanda Gage and husband Guy of Maine; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren
Mr. May served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He worked at Kelly Springfield Tire for 37 years.
He was a charter member of Rocky Ridge Sportsman, the Kennells Mill Sportsmen’s Club, SGT of the Fort Bedford Honor Guard; life member and served as first Vice President of the Oscar Jordan VFW Post 7375. He was also Past Commander and served on the board of Directors for 20 years of the American Legion Post 113 Bedford . He was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church from 10 to 11 a.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Christ Lutheran Church, Buffalo Mills on Saturday at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Ryan K. Viands officiating.
Burial will follow at Dry Ridge Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard
