Joan (Bowers) Moore, 80 of Carlisle, PA, passed away Tuesday February 21, 2012 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

Born September 11, 1931, in Cumberland, MD; she was a daughter of the late Cyrus V. and Helen K. (Kennell) Bowers of Hyndman, PA. Joan was preceded in death by an infant son of two days, Michael Paul Moore, and her beloved son Richard William Moore.

Joan was a 1949 graduate of Hyndman High School and valedictorian of her class. She then went to Potomac State College of West Virginia University, Keyser, WV and graduated in 1951. She enjoyed reading and traveling and her family. She has remained a member of the First United Church of Christ in Hyndman, PA.

She and her family lived in Saudi Arabia off and on for 16 years and spent sort periods of time living in Beirut, Lebanon and Kuwait. The Moore’s were able to visit other parts of the Middle East and Europe. While in Saudi Arabia, she was a member of the International Women’s Club and taught first and second grade for a year.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, William P. Moore whom she married April 14, 1952 in Winchester, VA; two daughters; Debra Ann Logue and husband, Larry of Mechanicsburg, PA; and Judith Elaine Moore of Carlisle, PA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lauren, Lisa Rachel, Stephen and Joshua Logue and Joseph Trammell. Also surviving is her sister, Judith Thost and husband Edgar of Ocean Pines, MD; and her brother Kendall and his wife Paula of Mechanicsville, VA

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Saturday from Noon to 1 pm where a funeral service will follow at 1pm with Rev. Dr. Tomislav Dosch officiating

Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery
