June E. Shaffer, 82, a truly devoted mother, grandmother and longtime resident of Hyndman area, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born June 21, 1927, in Garrett, PA, she is now reunited with her parents, Charles Leroy “Doc” and Anna Elizabeth (Ash) Emerick; and a brother, Bernard A. Emerick.

She is survived by sisters, Fay Leckemby of Hyndman, Colleen Logue of Ellerslie, MD; a brother, Farrell Emerick and special friend Faith Steele of Hyndman; children, Roger Shaffer and wife Cyndi, Rena Litten and husband Fred, Rhonda Sites and husband Greg, all of Hyndman; beloved grandchildren who brought her great joy, Leah Litten Oster and husband Greg, Greg Sites and wife Ashley, Sara Litten, Caleb Shaffer, Alexis Sites and special friend, Brandon Cerny, Trevor Sites and special friend, Katie Emerick and Becca Shaffer; very special caregivers, Beverly Bidinger, Lynne Shoemaker, Yolanda Campbell; numerous dearly loved nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; and great grandpuppies, Ginger, Bentley, and Tip.

June was a licensed Cosmetology Instructor, a graduate of Edys School of Beauty and business school, Chambersburg, PA, and was owner operator of her beauty shop for 33 years. She also served as a Red Cross instructor and on the Hyndman Rescue Squad for many years. She was a well loved Sunday School Teacher and sang with the Emerick Family in many churches. She was especially proud of her 2007 Mother of the Year Award. June was well known for her candy making and floral arrangements. June claimed Jesus as her Savior, was a friend to all, had a great sense of humor even through years of failing health, and left a lasting impression on many. She attended the Hyndman Ministry Center and the Central Assembly of God in Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday at Hyndman Ministry Center, 232 Hyndman Rd., Hyndman from 10 to 11 a.m. where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Stevie Leydig officiating.

Burial will follow at Palo Alto Hilltop Cemetery, Hyndman.

In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Hyndman Area Health Center, Hyndman Rescue Squad, Lions Center, Conemaugh Regional Hospice or the Area Agency on Aging.
