Leonard Lewis “Len” Sacco

Leonard Lewis “Len” Sacco, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 16, 2010, after a courageous 5 and a half year battle with cancer. He died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family.

Born December 17, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was a son of the late Michael D. and Dorothy (Anderson) Sacco. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Sacco and a sister, Jean (Sacco) Vena.

Len is survived by his loving wife and companion of 34 years, Miriam Arlene (Yoder) Sacco; former wife, Doris Lee (Biddington) Sacco, Meyersdale, PA; a son, Leonard W. Sacco, Baltimore, MD; daughters, Brenda Buckley-Collins and husband Dave, Linda Sacco and friend David Markwood, all of Cumberland, MD, Joann Minnick and husband Ted, and Melissa Minnick and husband Charles “Boone”, all of Meyersdale, PA. Grandchildren, Brian Lantz, Autumn, Ryan, and Travis Buckley, Eric Minnick; and Austin and Nadia Minnick. Great grandchildren, Sierra, Donavan, and Scott. A sister, Patricia Silvestri, Pittsburgh, PA; brothers, Robert Sacco, Texas, and Danny and Larry Sacco, Florida. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Len owned and opersted Len Sacco Auto Sales, Hyndman, PA, for 32 years, where he was also a certified PA State Inspection Mechanic. He had a love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed his topsoil, mulch, and firewood business. He had many professional business associates and loyal customers.

Len was a hard worker with a tender heart, always rooting for the underdog. He was quick to help anyone in need and had a generous spirit.

He was blessed with good health for many years, as well as complete recovery from several major surgeries. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him, even as his life and ultimate healing are celebrated.

Len enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, watching golf and football (especially the Steelers), and reading The Budget, a Mennonite community newspaper.

Len attended Calvary Bible Church. He was a member of the Kennells Mill Sportmen’s Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles 245, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 271.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at Calvary Bible Church in Ellerslie, MD on Thursday October 21, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ken Korns and Pastor Greg Miller officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Intombment will be in Restlawn memorial Gardens, LaVale, MD. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews, Brian Lantz, Ryan and Travis Buckley, Eric Minnick, Jimmy Sacco, and Jimmy Yoder.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in the memory of Mr. Sacco be directed to either Calvary Bible Church, PO Box 436, Ellerslie, MD 21529l; or to WMHS Home Hospice, c/o Linda Green, 1050 W. Industrial Blvd, Cumberland, MD 21502.
