Lois Violet Heatwole

Heatwole, Lois Violet, 83, died at the home of her daughter in Hyndman, PA. Born March 9, 1928, she was the youngest daughter of the late Robert and Ella (Shank) Heare of Kirby, WV. She was adopted at a young age after the death of her parents by Mr. and Mrs. J. Price Everett of Romney, WV. She graduated Romney High School Class of 1949 and then was employed by Potomac Light and Power Company of Romney, Wv.

On May 6, 1951, she married Gene Jackson Heatwole of Romney, WV. Following his tour of duty in the US Army, he returned home and the couple relocated to Bowling Green, so he could begin employment with the Cumberland Times News. They remained in their home for 49 years until after his death in 2004. She devoted her life to her husband, family, and her home. She had attended Center Street United Methodist Church and St. Matthews United Church of Christ in Bowling Green. Health issues forced her to relocate to Chateau Assisted Living in Cumberland, MD and eventually to her daughter’s home in July 2011.

She is survived by a son, Charles “Chuck” Heatwole, Havre De Grace, MD; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and John Porter, Hyndman, PA; granddaughters, Amanda Heatwole (Tom), Altoona, PA; Melissa Heatwole (Joe), Lilly, PA; Becky Porter (Pat), Hyndman, PA; Melanie Shaffer and husband Travis, Hyndman, PA; great grandchildren, Jordan Kiser, Charles Crosten, Page Shaffer, Jackson Shaffer, Alexander Heatwole and Tonya Burkhart. Also surviving are a brother, Robert Heare and wife Maxine, Romney, WV.; sisters-in-law, Edith McCauley, Petersburg, WV; Helen Heatwole, Gennie Heatwole; and a brother-in-law, William Deskins all of Romney, WV; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

As per Lois’ request she will be cremated. Her remains will be buried with her husband at Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV.
