M. Avalene Evans
Hyndman, PA – M. Avalene Evans, 85, of Hyndman went to be with the Lord Wednesday March 12, 2014 surrounded by her family at Frostburg Village.
Born June 12, 1928 in Buffalo Mills; she was a daughter of the late John R. Sr. and Annie M. (Sturtz) Mays. She was also preceded in death by her husband Russell Evans; an infant sister, Edna A. Mays; brothers, John Ray Mays Jr., and Curtis Mays
Survived by a daughter, Lisa Emerick and husband Steven Sr. of Buffalo Mills, grandchildren, Kelly Harshberger and Steven Emerick Jr. ; great grand children, Kaylee and Grayson Harshberger; a brother, A. Earl Mays and wife Joan of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews
Avalene worked at a local grocery store in Hyndman for 15 years and then was the Londonderry Township Tax Collector for 28 years. She was a faithful member of Central Christian Church. She enjoyed her tax customers and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family will deeply miss her.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Central Christian Church, Clarence St., Hyndman on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Pastors Terry Elliott and Galen Beitzel officiating.
Burial will follow at Lybarger Cemetery, Buffalo Mills, PA.
