Cumberland, MD – Marjorie Mae Ray, 89, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at Devlin Manor.
Born May 3, 1921, in Keyser, West Virginia, she was the only child of the late William Frank and Margret (Paul) Ray. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, J. Frederick Ellis.
She is survived by her son, Frederick Frank Ellis and wife, Bonnie of Ormond Beach FL.; three granddaughters, Denise Ellis-Johnson of Tampa, Suzanne E. Macklen and husband, Steve of Myrtle Beach, Paige E. Courtright and husband, Frank of Pawleys Island SC; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Close family survivors include, Alice (Freeland) Lough and husband, Russell of LaVale, Elizabeth P. McKenzie of Glencoe, PA, Wilbert R. Paul and wife, Fran of Cumberland, Donald G. Freeland of New Jersey, Shirley Walls of Hyndman and Carolyn G. Frankenberry and husband, Jerry of Alum Bank.
After her nurse’s training, she chose a business career, spending most of her working years in the banking industry at Baltimore. Ms. Ray returned to Cumberland after her retirement to help care for her mother. When her own health declined, she moved to Devlin Manor in 2004. She is remembered for her constant readiness to help others, her cheerful attitude, and her careful attention to her appearance.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, PA on Friday, June 4, 2010, at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will follow at Zion Reform Lutheran Cemetery, Wellersburg, PA.
