Raymond Ellsworth Leydig, 79, of Hyndman, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at WMHS Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 2, 1934, in Hyndman; a son of the late Charles and Emma Ruth (Clites) Leydig. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Willard and Carl Leydig; sister in law, Mary Dorothy Leydig.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elsie (Emerick) Leydig, whom he married on September 6, 1959; sons, Roger Leydig of Hyndman, Allen Leydig and wife Cloie of Cumberland, daughters, Judy Mock and husband Duane of Claysburg, Karen Dively and husband Jay of Manns Choice; grandchildren, Janelle Edmundson, Jamie Dively, Danielle Mock and Duane Mock Jr.; great grandchildren, Brooke and Trevor Edmundson; sisters, Mila Cassiday and husband, Leo of Wabash, IN, Anna Lee Black and husband Gerald of East Freedom and a sister-in-law, Ruth Leydig of Everett.
Mr. Leydig attended Hyndman High School. He attended Gravel Pit United Methodist Church and Calvary Bible Church, Ellerslie. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in August 1962. During his life he worked at the Celanese Corporation, assisted his father logging and at the Bedford Area School District. He retired as the custodian of the Hyndman Elementary School. Mr. Leydig enjoyed pitching horse shoes and was a member of the Hy-Lo Horse Shoe Club.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ken Korns officiating.
Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery. Military honors by the Ft. Bedford Honor Guard.
