Obituary

Hyndman, PA – Raymond George Sturtz, 88, of Hyndman died Friday January 11, 2013 at James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona
Born July 1, 1924, in Wellersburg, PA; he was a son of the late George R. and Florence E. (Kennell) Sturtz. He was also preceded in death by a son, David W. Sturtz; brothers, Herbert and John Sturtz; a sisters, Verna Raley.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Jane (Kreigline) Sturtz, whom he married April 23, 1946; children, Beverly Needy and husband Robert of King George, VA, Gary Sturtz and special friend Doris Shroyer of Fairhope; Linda Holmes and Fiance Robert C. Cook II of Hyndman; Kathy Sturtz of Hyndman; a sister, Goldie Getson of LaVale, MD; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sturtz served for 30 years in the US Army, serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded numerous awards and decorations. His two tours of service in Vietnam with the 1st Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry, he was awarded three bronze stars. After retirement he also worked for Delcrest and Bedford Springs.
He was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post 113 and Hyndman VFW Oscar Jordan Post 7375.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 am with Rev. Beverly Roscoe officiating
Burial will follow at Madley Cemetery, Buffalo Mills, PA. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 172 will serve as pallbearers and Ft. Bedford Honor Guard will confer Military Honors.
