Hyndman, PA Vohn R. Lehman Sr., 70, of Hyndman died Sunday March 30, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born August 25, 1943, in Cumberland, MD; he was a son of J. Sherman and Geraldine M. (Miller) Lehman. He is preceded in death by his mother, and a son, Vohn R. Lehman Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barb (Sisk) Lehman, whom he married February 11, 1967; children, Rodney Lehman of Hubbard, OH; Stacey Moyer and husband Jerry of Bedford, Jody Lehman and special friend, Dimmie of Berlin; Jeff Maxwell and wife Debbie; Marc Maxwell both of Port St. Lucie, FL; his father, J. Sherman Lehman of Buffalo Mills, mother-in-law, Naomi Sick of Bedford, brothers, Gary Lehman and wife Willa; Robert Lehman and wife Carolyn both of Buffalo Mills; sisters, Carolyn Lehman of Altoona; Janet Willis and husband Frederic of Buffalo Mills; grandchildren, Tucker and Dalton Torbet, Hunter and Gunner Lehman, Steffi, Drake and Duke Moyer, Heather, Jason, Laura, Dave, Mark and Michael Maxwell; great grandchildren, Madison Torbet, Emily, Curtis, Caden, Cameron and Kaydee; and many nieces and nephews.

Vohn worked at Kelly Springfield Tire until it closed and then he worked for his brother, Robert Lehman Construction.

He was a 1961 graduate of Hyndman High School. He lettered in baseball and basketball. In 1961, he signed to play baseball with the New York Giants. He was touted by proscouts as the next Elroy Face. After two years of pro ball, he returned to his hometown and finished his baseball career in the Pen-Mar League, where he garnered many awards. The late Paul Evans, a longtime statistician for the Hyndman Pen-Mar baseball teams, said “Vohn Lehman was at the head of the class as the best all-around player Hyndman ever produced.” Vohn was inducted into the Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Buffalo Mills.

A funeral service will be conducted at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7139 Hyndman Rd, Buffalo Mills on Thursday at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Ryan K. Viands officiating.

Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery with John Topper, Dave Emerick, Mike Logsdon, Ed May, Bernie Hankinson, and Gregg McKinley serving as pallbearers.
