Hyndman, PA – Alma Ruth Custer, 93, of Palo Alto Rd., Hyndman went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, September 16, 2021.

Born July 3, 1928, in Fairhope; she was a daughter of the late George and Hulda (Richardson) Merkel. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Ray A. Custer; brothers, Victor, Dewey, Harry, Darris, Lee, and Donald Merkel; sisters, Helen Nair, Jean Deitz, Doris Merkel, Beverly Merkel, Shirley Emerick, and Betty Huffman.

She is survived by her children, Margaret Kesner, Romney, Wv, Donna Landis, Hyndman,  Grant Custer (Janet), Hyndman, Harmon Custer (Debbie), Berlin, Patty Weir (David) Lonaconing, Robert Custer (Renee), Hyndman, Barbara Morgart (Kenny), Lonaconing; a brother, John Deremer, Warren, OH, ; 15 grandchildren, Pamela Kesner, Mary Arnie, John Landis, Robert Custer Jr, Mitchell Custer, Rachel Custer, David Custer, Jennifer Geatz, Justin Custer, Rebecca Custer, Robin Custer, Joshua Morgart, Bobbie Jo Getson, Michael Rhyder and Jennifer Rhyder; 28 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, Hunter. In addition, she is survived by many nieces and nephews, many of whom thought of her as a second mother.

Mrs. Custer was a homemaker and volunteer for over 40 years as an election judge for Somerset County. During WWII, she worked for a short time in a cannon factory and was always supportive of our troops. Alma was a faithful member of Comps Church and faithfully prayed for her family members to be saved. She enjoyed spending time with her family above anything else on earth.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Tuesday September 21, 2021, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at Comps Church on Wednesday September 22, 2021 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Roger Huffman officiating. Viewing one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Comps Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Comps Church.
