Hyndman, PA – Clifton E. Clites Sr., 85, of Hyndman, went to be with the Lord Friday, September 23, 2016, at his home.

Born November 8, 1930, in Hyndman; he was a son of the late John R. and Bessie E. (Leydig) Clites. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Earl Clites.

Survived by his wife of 67 years, Peggy (Madden) Clites, whom he married June 19, 1949; children, John Clites and wife Cathy of Buffalo Mills, Janie Sams and husband Darl of Bedford, Susie Lotz and husband Bill of Bedford, and Clifton Clites Jr. and wife Christy of Everett; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Mr. Clites was a 1949 graduate of Hyndman High School. He was the owner operator of Clites Garage and Coal Company. He served on the first board of directors of the Hyndman Area Health Center, Past President of the Civic Association, member of the Hyndman Recreation Association. Former member of Bedford Elks, Hy-Lo Lions Club, Hyndman Senior Center, and Gravel Pitt United Methodist Church. He was an avid baseball player and played in the Pen Mar League for 30 years.  He also pitched horseshoes and founded the Hy-Lo Horseshoe Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and playing cards. Many around Hyndman knew him as “The Candy Man”. He acted in the Hy-Lo Lions Club Hee Haw Show for many years, where he impersonated Mr. T, Willie Nelson, Elvis, Dolly Parton, Hank Williams Jr, and Goober.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ken Korns officiating. Friends received one hour prior.

Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery with Aaron Sams, Brett Clites, Eric Lotz, Trenton Clites, John Boone, and Ryan Fetter serving as pallbearers.
