Daniel W. Sivits, 74, of Hyndman went home to be with the Lord, family and friends on September 15, 2017.

Mr. Sivits was born October 16, 1942 in New Paris. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Ruth and Bill Hughes of Everett and his father Joseph Sivits of New Paris, a brother, SGT Charles Sivits of Hyndman  and a very special pet and friend, Sherry.

Dan was a loving husband to Freda “Sissy” (Morris) Sivits for 31 years. He also leaves behind a son, Jeremy Sivits and wife Holly of Martinsburg, PA; sister, Pansy Miller and husband Delmas of Schellsburg, brother, Luke Hughes and wife Debbie of Everett; two amazing grandchildren James Sivits age 11 and Madalynn Sivits age 6 of Martinsburg. Also many other family members and friends.

Dan enlisted in the USMC in 1960. After his enlistment was complete he then enlisted in the US Army where he was assigned to a unit in Germany. He then went to Vietnam for two different tours. One with the 4th Infantry Division where he was awarded the Bronze Star with “V” Device. The second tour was with the 25th infantry division where he was again awarded the Bronze star with the Oak cluster. He also received the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat. On return from Vietnam Mr. Sivits discharged and re-enlisted into the US Navy where he earned the privilege and right to be part of UDT Seal Team II. He retired in 1983. He worked at Creative Pultrusions in Alum Bank. He was also a drywall finisher.

He was a life member of the Vietnam Veterans 172, was a member of the Fleet Reserves, American Legion Post 113 and the VFW Oscar Jordan Post 7375. Dan was also an avid hunter, fisherman and motorcyclist.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Thursday September 21, 2017 from 1 pm until the time of the service at 2 pm. Rev. Mark Halliday officiating. Military Honors by the Ft. Bedford Honor Guard.
