Hyndman, PA – David A. “Abbie” Horner Sr., 90, of Hyndman, passed away Friday March 13, 2015, at WMHS Regional Medical Center.

Born March 20, 1924, in Cumberland, MD; he was a son of the late Albert and Alzene (Coughenour) Horner. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Horner, and a sister, Betty Kirchner.

He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 71 years, Anneva (Stahlman) Horner, whom he visited faithfully every day at Frostburg Village Nursing Home. They were married October 30, 1943. He is also survived by children, Diana Conner and husband Rick of Hyndman, David Horner Jr. and fiancée  Theresa Adams of Short Gap, WV, Sharon Snyder and husband John of Hyndman; a brother, Richard Horner and wife Faith of Hyndman, sisters, Jane Moore and husband Louis of State College, Phyllis Metz of Wichita ,Kansas, 4 grandchildren, John Snyder Jr. and wife Missy of Buffalo Mills, Missy Leydig and husband Stephen of Hyndman, April Horner of Short Gap, Brittny Walls and husband Jeff of Hyndman;  7 great grandchildren and another one expected to arrive in July;  and  four great great grandchildren

Mr. Horner served in the US Army, 82nd Airborne during WWII. He was in the European theatre for four year and was awarded a Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge. He was the owner/operator of Horner’s food Market alongside his wife for 39 years. After retiring he went to work at Jack Day’s Market for another 15 years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a 15 year member of the Hyndman Rescue Squad and served as Captian for four years. He was a member and past president of the Hyndman Londonderry Lions Club., Past Master of the Hyndman Masonic Lodge 589 F&AM and member for over 60 years, Past Commander of the Hyndman VFW Oscar Jordan Post 7375. He was a member of the board of directors of the Hoblitzell National Bank.  He would also volunteer at the Cumberland VA Clinic.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Monday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastors Kenneth Haines and David Klink officiating

Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery, Hyndman. With military honors by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
