Donald R. Grant, 73, of Fossilville, PA went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022 at home.

Born August 29, 1948 in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Bill and Larna Grant who moved to Fossilville in 1963.  He is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Carver.

Survived by his wife, Sara (Holler) Grant, who he married on February 10, 1968; daughter Jessica Shaffer and husband, Craig of Hyndman, PA; daughter Amy Grant of Bowling Green, OH; son William Grant and wife, Tessa of Fossilville, PA; grandchildren, Kerstin, Katelyn, Hudson and Lane Shaffer and Lincoln and Layla Grant; sisters, Iona Skelly of Cresaptown, Md and Jane Ann Carver of Florence, CO; beloved German Shephard, Zeus.

He enlisted with the U.S. Marines in 1968 and served as a combat engineer in Vietnam in 1968-69.  He was honorably discharged in 1970 and returned home to continue working as an ironworker and later starting Grant’s Construction & Erection Company.

He was an avid hunter, gardener, and woodworker who enjoyed being outdoors and loved attending antique cars shows. He was a member of Ironworkers Local 568 in Cumberland Md., Hyndman VFW Post 7375, Hyndman Masonic Lodge 589, and Milligan’s Cove Christian Church.

 He was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend to all he knew. He greatly appreciated the care he received from Kindred hospice nurses, Michelle and Denise, whose excellent care allowed him to die peacefully at home surrounded by family after his four-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Monday February 28, 2022 from 6 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Russell Hoffman officiating. Viewing one hour prior. Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
