Dorothy I. Miller, nee Emerick, 87, of Hyndman, PA., born June 6, 1927, in Hyndman, PA passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Conamaugh Hospital in Johnstown, Pennsylvania after a short illness.

Dorothy was born and raised in Hyndman, PA. She attended Hyndman High School until she was 16 and then went to work at the Cumberland laundry where she worked for the next ten years. Dorothy then moved to Baltimore Maryland where she worked for Martin American (Martin Marietta) in the Executive Dining Hall. These were exciting times for Dorothy, as Martin American was designing the first manned spacecraft for the U.S. It was in Baltimore that Dorothy met her first husband, Martin W. England. After Mr. England’s death, Dorothy came back home to Hyndman, and accepted a job as a cook at the Hyndman Primary School, later moving into the position as Head Cook at Hyndman Londonderry School where altogether she worked for 35 years. It was during Dorothy first couple months at Hyndman Primary School that she met her second husband Charles “Red” Miller. They married on January 25, 1965, and together Dorothy and Red spent 49 happy years together.

Dorothy was a member of the Central Christian Church, of Hyndman, Pennsylvania, where she served as Treasurer for 30 plus years.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Mildred Emerick; first husband, Martin W. England, sister Mae Emerick; brother Timothy Shaffer and loving Aunts and Uncles. She is survived by her husband Charles “Red” Miller of Hyndman; son, Glenn (Veronica) Miller of Hyndman; daughters, Janet (Sidney) Ritchey of O’Fallon, IL; and, Rosetta Hastie (Carl Jones) of Corriganville, MD, sister, Edith (Edward “Hap”) Kennell of Hyndman, grandchildren, Hera Gonzales; Patricia Ann (Hubert) Neri; Glenn William (Debra) Miller; Beth (Bryan) White; Charles (Melissa) Miller; Megan Miller; Lori Ritchey; Elizabeth Rotruck; Grecar (Glenn) Illustrisimo; Todd Hastie; Franco Gonzaga; Kendra Hastie (William Claudio Jr); and Adam Hastie, niece, Sandra (Brian) LaComb, great-niece, Risa (David) Barton and great- nephews, Jamy LaComb, and Dylan LaComb, 21 great-grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.

Friends will be received at the Ziegler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman, PA, on Monday, June 23, from 2-4 and 6 – 8, and Tuesday, June 24, from 10 – 11, followed by the funeral service. Pastors Terry Elliott and Galen Beitzel officiating. Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery, Hyndman, PA.
