Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home

Ellen Marie (Butts) Jarosz entered heaven on Thursday, April 25, 2024.  She was at her log cabin home in Glencoe, PA that she and her loving husband of nearly 32 years, Andy Jacob (A.J.) Jarosz, designed and built together.

Ellen Marie was born on December 4, 1945 and was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth O. Butts and Ruth E. (Conner) Butts of Cumberland, MD.  Her late step-father, Eldridge B. Twigg of Oldtown, MD also played a vital role in her upbringing.

Shortly after graduating from Mt. Savage High School, she married Patrick G. Spies of LaVale, MD.  During their 16 year marriage, they were blessed with 2 daughters; Carrie Sue (Spies) Stock married to John “Karl” Stock residing in Berlin, PA and Brenda Lee (Spies) Carter married to Gary A. Carter, residing in Hyndman, PA.

Once Ellen and Andy were married, she gained a son and 3 daughters: Andrew James (A.J.) Jarosz and his wife, Darlene; Donna and her husband, Jon Wright; Christine and her husband, Donnie Smith; Helen and her husband, Rick Yohe.

Ellen has two brothers: Kenneth A. Butts and wife, Carolyn; Raymond O. Butts and wife, Patricia. She also has three sisters: Beverley and her late husband, Russell Bittner; Evelyn and her husband, Dennie Readd; Eleanor and her husband, Dale Stickel.  Her loving family also included 14 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Ellen worked at Nikki, Inc. which was a sewing factory in Cresaptown, MD.  Once Nikki, Inc. shut down, she started her own housecleaning business.

In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her flower and fern beds, as well as going for leisurely drives throughout the rural countryside.  Ellen loved the outdoors. She and Andy have gone on many adventures like canoe trips in the Boundary Waters Area Wilderness and the Quetico Park in Minnesota/Ontario, Canada, driving cross country to explore Alaska, as well as Yellowstone National Park, and fishing while paddling through numerous bodies of water.  The two of them have many fond memories together touring the Boldt and Singer Castles in New York, ice festivals in Frankenmuth, MI and shopping at Bronner’s Christmas store.

Ellen loved having gatherings at their log cabin where friends and family would play games, sit around the fire ring sharing memories and having lots of laughs. She was an upbeat, spunky woman with a positive attitude and a true zest for life.  She had a very caring heart, always wanting to help others in any way she could.  It goes without saying that she will be missed by so many who enjoyed being around her.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman Friday May 3, 2024 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday May 4, 2024 at 11 a.m. Viewing one hour prior.
