Bedford, PA – Elwood H. Leister, 96, of Bedford went to be with the Lord Tuesday June 8, 2021 at UPMC Altoona.

Born September 4, 1924 in Glencoe; he was a son of the late James A. and Edna Naomi (Emerick) Leister. He is also preceded in death by his wife, A. Marie (Shaffer) Leister on March 1, 2015 ending a marriage of 65 years, a son, Thomas Leister, son-in-law, Robert Harclerode, a granddaughter, Suzanne Harclerode; brothers, Jacob, Fred and Ernest Leister; sisters, Marybell Kline, Helen Tomlinson, Hazel Tomlinson, and Dottie Leister, sisters-in-law, Regina McGregor, Mabel Baker, a brother-in-law, Frederick Paul Shaffer.

 Survived by children, Paul Leister and wife Dawn Elaine (Miller), Connie Harclerode,  Daniel Leister, John Leister and wife Sherry (Renk), all of Bedford; Jenny Wagoner, of Everett, Mary Baker and husband Les, Laura Hyde and husband David, both of Bedford; brothers, Ralph Leister of Glencoe, Roy Leister of Dover AR, Stanley Leister of Glencoe, sisters, Delores Kline of Waynesboro , Kay Diehl of Bedford, Thelma Hillegass of Schellsburg; brother-in-law, Edgar Shaffer of Hyndman; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Served in US Army during WWII with the 17th and 82nd Airborne and the 194th Glider Infantry Regiment in the European Theatre. He attended The Springhope Brethren in Christ Church, Schellsburg

He drove tractor and trailer for many years, while farming their small farm in Pensyl Hollow with his family.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m.  with Rev. Brandon Horton officiating. Viewing one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery, with Military Honors by American Legion Post 13 Honor Guard.
