Buffalo Mills, PA – Esther A. Baker, 75, of Buffalo Mills, went to be with the Lord on Monday November 2, 2015 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born September 23, 1940 in Hyndman, PA; she was a daughter of the late Rollo and Frances (Luman) Clapper; she was also preceded in death by a brother, Gregory Clapper.

Survived by her husband of 53 years,  Jacob “John” Baker, whom she married, April 22, 1962; children, Judy Clapper and husband Mark of Buffalo Mills; John Scott Baker and wife Gina of Altoona, Suzanne Myers and husband Glenn of Port Matilda; grandchildren, Justin, Jordan and Jarrod Clapper, Matthew Baker, Cathy Spencer, David Baker and Brooke Myers; a brother, Richard Clapper and wife Sara of Collegeville; sisters, Mary May and husband Donald of Buffalo Mills, Paula Zan of Hyndman, sister-in-law, Peggy Luman and husband Joseph of Alexandria, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Esther was Registered Nurse. She was a 1961 graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She served as a pediatric nurse for Dr. Reiter in Cumberland, MD and later as a surgical nurse at Memorial hospital there. She graduated from IUP with a Bachelors in Education and a School Nurse Certification in 1982. She then served as the School Nurse in Manns Choice and would retire from the Bedford Area School District in 2004, where she was the School Nurse for many years.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council; women’s fellowship and as social event coordinator. She was a member of the Hyndman Londonderry Lions Club; Bedford Area School Nurses Association, Memorial Hospital Nursing School Alumni.

Friends will be received at the Christ Lutheran Church., 7319 Hyndman Rd., Buffalo Mills, PA on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Church on Friday at 5 p.m. with The Rev. Ryan K. Viands officiating.

Burial will be Saturday at 11:00 at Lybarger Cemetery, Buffalo Mills.
