Wellersburg, PA – Esther I. (Lechliter) Bucy McKenzie, 86, of Wellersburg, died June 7, 2019 at Meyersdale Healthcare.

Born May 17, 1933 in Oldtown, MD; she was a daughter of the late David E. and Mary Elizabeth (Powell) Lechliter. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 29 years Harry V. “Corky” McKenzie and her second husband of 20 years, Frank L. Bucy; a daughter Paula McKenzie, brother, Thomas Lechliter; granddaughter, Summer McKenzie, two great grandchildren, Cameron and Camberlynn McKenzie.

Survived by children, Troy McKenzie and wife Connie of Wellersburg, Sharon Shaffer and husband Rod of Hyndman, Pauline Hill and husband Rick of Pinellas Park, FL, Tammy McKenzie of Hyndman; a sister, Shirley Pyles and husband Dave of Fort Ashby, WV; brothers, John Lechliter and wife Sue of Coolidge, AZ, Calvin “Dewey” Lechliter and wife Mary of New Martinsville, WV: 8 grandchildren, Jeremy Fetters and partner Chris, Joey Emerick and husband Matt, Dillon Hosier, Chase McKenzie, Cory McKenzie and fiancé Margie, Dustin McKenzie, Rick and Jamey Hill; five great grandchildren, Destiny Holle, Ethan Bridges, Kyley and Mallory Emerick and Heaven McKenzie; and niece and best friend, Pat Manis.

Esther was a seamstress and owner of McKenzie Upholstery for over 30 years. She was the last Post Mistress at the Wellersburg Post Office. She was Valedictorian of Fort Ashby High School class of 1951,  past Girl Scout leader in Wellersburg, served on the PTA, Wellersburg Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Barrelville Outdoor Club Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church in Wellersburg. Her main ministry was making and distributing over 1000 beaded crosses and “cross in the pockets”. She loved to fish and one day caught 100 fish on her fly rod. She enjoyed making her children’s clothing, canning, old bottle collecting, Scrabble, crafting and the Bedford County Young at Heart Games, where she once received the highest award “Youngest at Heart”. She attended the Hyndman Senior Center and coordinated crafts, entertainment and outings for many years. She was a 17- year breast cancer survivor.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Friday June 14, 2019 from 6 to 9 p.m.

A combined funeral service for Esther and her daughter, Paula McKenzie, who died June 4, 2019, will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday June 15, 2019 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ken Haines officiating. Friends received one hour prior.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Mt. Savage, MD.
