Hyndman, PA – Eugene N. Hite, 92, of Hyndman died Sunday May 5, 2019 at his residence.

Born August 17, 1926, in Cumberland, MD; a son of the late Ralph and Ferba (Miller) Hite.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, P. Colleen (Scritchfield) Hite, whom he married July 7, 1949;  sons, Larry E. Hite and Robert L. “Bobby” Hite; brothers, Charles, Kenneth Dale, and R. Lou Hite.

Survived by children, Beverly H. Johnson and husband Keith, Ellerslie, MD, Roger L. Hite and wife Patty (Shoemaker), Ellerslie, Diane H. Riggin and husband Tim, Shrewsbury, PA; daughter-in-law, Karen (Bashang) Hite , Hyndman, PA, sisters, Mary Platt of Colorado Springs, CO, Eileen Douglas of Thomasville, NC;  12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Eugene graduated from Fort Hill High School and during his senior year worked evenings at the Celanese Corp. After high school he served in the US Army as an M.P. and was stationed in the Philippines. He was a logger and then truck driver for Eastern Express. He then got a job driving truck at Kelley Springfield Tire, where he would retire as a Safety Supervisor.

He was a member of Hyndman Masonic Lodge 589 F&AM for 50 years, Oscar Jordan VFW Post 7375, Hyndman Grange and First United Church of Christ. Gene enjoyed spending time with his family playing cards and going to his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 8:30 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Tomislav Dosch officiating

Burial at Hyndman Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
