Obituary

Wellersburg, PA – Frederick J. McKenzie, 89, of Wellersburg passed away June 14, 2024, at Sterling Care Frostburg.
Born July 23, 1934, in Somerset; a son of the late Augustus J. McKenzie and Gladys (Chisholm) McKenzie. Also preceded in death by siblings, Sue Habersack, Faith Kennell, Shirley “Babe” Diehl, Jo Ann Haines; and his brothers: Mason “Nook,” Paul “Butch,” John “Dood,” Harry “Corky,” Jim, and Augustus Jr., “Fatty”; a granddaughter, Megan Chamberlain and son-in-law, Jay Hardy.
Fred was a graduate of Cathermine’s Business School. He served in the US Army during Korea. He worked at PPG and also did construction. Fred was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, trapping, fishing and Ginseng hunting.
Survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia (Ricewick) McKenzie, whom he married December 1, 1960; children, Jeff McKenzie and wife Benay of Mulvane, KS, Jodi McKenzie of Paw Paw, WV, Melanie Hardy of Cumberland, Michael McKenzie and wife Tammy of Barrellville, Jason McKenzie and wife Christine of Kennells Mill; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 12205 Gramlich Rd SW, LaVale, MD 21502 on Wednesday June 19, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. where a service will follow at 1 p.m. Post 13 Honor Guard will perform military honors.
Burial will be private at Cooks Cemetery.
