Flinton, PA – Gary W. Shaffer, 74, of Glendale Yearound, formerly of Hyndman passed away Wednesday December 14, 2016 at UPMC Altoona

Born January 20, 1942 in Hyndman; he was a son of the late Delos Victor and Tolva Lucille (May) Shaffer. Also preceded in death by a sister, Rose Fochtman.

Survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna (Housel)Shaffer, whom he married April 15, 1964; daughters, Kimberly Boone and husband Joseph of Fairfax, VA, Kristi Foist and husband Jason of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren, Nathaniel, Samuel, Samantha, and Logan; sisters, Alice Ringler and husband Allen, Joan Coughenour and husband Ray and Rita Leap all of Hyndman and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shaffer worked for Mineral Fabrication in Keyser, WV as a mechanical draftsman. He served in the US Airforce during Vietnam. He was Methodist by faith. Gary was an avid hunter, fisherman and all around outdoorsman. He was a member of the Glendale Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed traveling and was a Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan. He was an artist and a handyman. He played church league softball and looked forward to hunting and fishing trips with his high school buddies. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and an epic storyteller.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m., where a funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. JoAnn Dermer officiating.
