Chambersburg, PA – Helen R. Baker Fahnestock, 84, of Chambersburg, formerly of Fairhope went to be with the Lord Thursday March 9, 2017 at Shook Home, Chambersburg.

Born October 21, 1932 in Fairhope, PA; she was a daughter of the late Ellsworth and Ruth (Shroyer) Shumaker. Also preceded in death by husbands, Melvin Baker in 1970 and Larry Fahnestock in 2010; a brother, Francis Shumaker; sisters, Emma Shumaker, Mary Winebrenner, and Ethel Isminger; and a son-in-law, Michael Garfield.

Survived by sons, Melvin “Fred” Baker Jr and wife Robin of Freidens, Jeff Baker and wife Heather of Fairhope, daughters, Barb Ross and husband Jan of Chambersburg, Betty Winebrenner and husband Mark of Aberdeen, MD; and Robin Garfield of Annandale, VA; sisters, Shirley Cummins of Fairhope, Sylvia Kennell of Cumberland; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Helen was a telephone operator in Hyndman, she worked as a waitress, and a party coordinator. She had also worked at the Ramada Inn in Somerset and Snyders of Berlin. She retired from Wilson College where she was a switchboard operator.  Helen was a faithful member of both the Fairhope Community Church and the New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Monday March 13, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Fairhope Community Church on Tuesday March 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with the Pastor James Swauger officiating. Friends will be received at the church for one hour immediately prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Comps Cemetery

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fairhope Community Church, New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church, or the benevolent care fund at the Shook Home in Chambersburg.
