BELLE VERNON, PA — Jack Shaffer, 84, of Belle Vernon, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015, in Jefferson Regional Hospital.

He was born March 16, 1931, in Hyndman, PA, the son of the late Emory and Mary (Harclerode) Shaffer. He was also preceded in death by death by a sister, Grace Morris and a brother John Schaffer.

Jack was a veteran serving in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charleroi, he was a 55 year member in the Free and Accepted Masonic Lodges, a member of the F. & A.M. Lodge 589 in Hyndman, the F. & A.M. Lodge 615 in Charleroi, the Mid-Mon Valley Shipmates, the Hyndman Sportsman’s Club and the Charleroi American Legion Post 22.

He was an employee with the Allegheny Ballistics Laboratory, CONSOL Coal Co.,and lastly FPD CO. of McMurry, PA.

Jack is survived by his wife, Shirley O’Baker Shaffer; a daughter, Lori Bruce and her husband Dave of Belle Vernon; two sons, Jack Shaffer and his wife Rhonda of St. Clairsville, Ohio, and Robert Shaffer and his wife Rita of Fallowfield Township; sister-in-law, Gladys Shaffer of North Canton, Ohio, brother-in-law, Howard Morris of Bishop, PA.; five grandchildren, Mark Schaffer, Karen Gilliot, Tracy Bruce, Theresa Shaffer and Jonathan Schaffer; three step-grandchildren, Lance Rice, BJ Rice and Dusty Rice; three great-grandchildren, Luka Gilliot, Lilly Price and Marley Price.

Friends will be received in the Harvey H. Zeigler, Funeral Home. Inc. 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, Pa., on Thursday, May 7, 2015, from 6 to 9 p.m. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8:30.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, May 8, 2015, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Tomislav Dosch, officiating.

Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery with military honors by the Ft. Bedford Honor Guard.
