James “Jimmy” Richard Matrey, 49 of Glen Burnie Maryland formally of Mt Savage Maryland passed peacefully with family at his side on October 5th, 2021. Jimmy was born October 21, 1971 in Cumberland Maryland.

Jimmy lost his fight with cancer and as he put it “The Cancer Won”

Jimmy is survived by his wife Noell Bestpitch Matrey of Glen Burnie, Md. His Father and Mother Dennis and Etta Marie Helmstetter, his sister and best friend Melissa “Missy” Matrey and her significant other Larry Webb, all of Corriganville, Md. Jimmy is also survived by his children, Curtis and Madison Matrey, Natoshia Beeman, Nikki Turner and Hailey Bestpitch; several grandchildren, aunts, uncles and cousins whom he loved very much.

Jimmy attended Mt Savage High School. He was a handyman and jack of all trades best known for his drywall talent and the perfection of beautifully finished ceilings. Jimmy enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He made many fishing trips to Harpers Ferry with his uncles and cousins where they would stay on the island making unforgettable memories. Jimmy had a great sense of humor and a lust for life. He never met a stranger.

Family and friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Saturday October 9, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m. Where a celebration of life will follow at 4 p.m.

Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Chesapeake and or the American Cancer Society.
