Hyndman, PA – James R. Whitford III, 62, of Hyndman passed away July4, 2023 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.

Born on April 10, 1961, in Cumberland, MD; a son of James R. Whitford Jr. and Martha (Weaverling) Whitford. He is preceded in death by his father James Jr.; a brother, Mark Headley, sister, Betty Ann Taylor, niece, Renee Taylor, daughter, April, great grandchildren, Lance and Taryn.

James was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his mother Martha, children, Carrie Whitford, James Whitford IV, Misty Greise Kesha Keel, and Steven Hirschmann; grandchildren, Bryan Hott Jr., Joey Hott, Connor Whitford, Courtney Musselman, Brandon Greise Jr., Daisy and Lily Keel; great grandchildren, Dominic and Evangeline Bevans, Austin, Witten, and Genevieve Musselman. Also survived by brother, Shane Whitford, sisters, Susan Bridges, and Connie Whitford; and many nieces and nephews.

James had a heart of gold and helped everyone he could with a smile. He was employed at the Potomac Center from 1993 to 2020 where he decided he wanted to pursue another career after obtaining his master’s degree from Kaplan University in 2017. James was currently employed at ACRP where he touched the lives of many people. He was a member of the Hyndman Volunteer Fire Department since 1979 and was a life member serving as Chief for many years. He also was a Forest Fire Warden. James was in the US Navy Reserves for 9 years serving in Desert Storm on the USS Comfort. He was an avid Steeler fan and enjoyed mud bogging.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Sunday July 9, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m. where a time of remembrance will follow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the funeral home to help defer the family’s expenses.
