Hyndman, PA – James W. “Bill” McCoy, 89, of Hyndman, PA went to be with the Lord August 21, 2017 at WMHS Regional Medical Center.
Born November 29, 1927 in Cooks Mill; he was a son of the late Joseph and Sylvia (Clark) McCoy. He was also preceded in death by a sister Marjorie Shroyer.
Survived by his wife of 68 years, Tolva Jean Shaffer, whom he married, June 9, 1949; children, Donald McCoy and wife Kathy of Hyndman, Barbara Fisher and husband Michael of Cumberland, Diann Ryan and husband Gary, Patrick McCoy and wife Joan all of Hyndman; grandchildren, Coby (Anna) McCoy, Donald McCoy, Jeb (Chanda) Wiseman, Travis (Regina) Ryan, Chase (Shayla) Ryan, Riley McCoy, Kirk (Jeanne) Fisher, and Todd Fisher; great grandchildren, Sam and Ashley McCoy, Taylor, Hailee and Carter Ryan, Sam, Amanda and Leah Fisher, Morgan and Madison; brothers, Robert McCoy and wife Paulette, John McCoy and wife Dorothy all of Hyndman and several nieces and nephews.
Bill served in the US Air Force during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He received the WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He was an Operating Engineer with the Local Union 37. He had work at George Hazelwood Company, Phoenix Construction Company, and retired in 1990 after many years with Carl Belt Inc. as a crane operator.
He was a member of the Cooks Mill United Methodist Church, Oscar Jordan VFW Post 7375, the Kennells Mill Sportsmen’s Club, and a life member of the NRA. He also served on the Cooks Mill Cemetery Association.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Wednesday August 23, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday August 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Haines officiating.
Burial will follow at Cooks Mill Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
