Ellerslie, MD – K. Billy Kennell, 61, of Ellerslie, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014, at his residence.

Born January 22, 1953, in Cumberland; he was a son of the late Billy Kenneth and Martha LaVerne (Smith) Kennell.

Survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ellen (Sides) Kennell, whom he married November 27, 1974; sons, Jason Kennell and special friend, Jenny of Ellerslie, Jeremy Kennell and wife Kara of Cumberland; a daughter, Mary Beth Kennell of Ellerslie; grandchildren, Ryan Kennell of Pasadena, MD, Alex and Carter Kennell of Cumberland; brothers, Leo Shinholt, Tim Kennell and wife Susan; sisters, Karen Diehl and husband Davey, Diane Douty, and JoAnn Willingham all of Corriganville, and many nieces and nephews

Billy worked for 28 years out of the Laborers Local 616 Union. Some of his employers were, Mattingly Construction, IA and Belt Paving. Billy retired at the age of 49 and continued to work in the family business at S&S Maple Farm, he boiled the maple syrup and learned this trade from his grandfather, Harvey Smith. Over the years he had done many different jobs from tapping trees to gathering the buckets of sugar water becoming an important part of the business.

Billy enjoyed passing his time by attending his children’s sporting events, playing slow pitch softball, playing cards, picnics, yard sales and auctions. He loved and adored his family and cherished the times he would take his grandchildren fishing. He was an avid gardener and had a passion for the outdoors, including deer and mushroom hunting. He was a member of the Ellerslie and Barrelville Outdoor Clubs and the Kennells Mill Sportsmen’s Club and enjoyed going to Shooting Matches with his family.

He was quick to help anyone in need and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be deeply missed.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Tomislav Dosch officiating.

Burial will follow at Madley Cemetery, Buffalo Mills, PA with Tim Kennell, Jimmy Twigg, Larry Lewis, Mike Lowery, Timmy Burkett, Rocky Douty, and Travis Diehl serving as pallbearers.
