Gravel Pit, PA – Kenneth Wilbur Kuhn, Sr., 85, of Gravel Pit, PA, died Friday, April 19, 2019, at his home.

Born February 28, 1934, in Gravel Pit, Mr. Kuhn was the son of the late Cecil Abbott Kuhn and Lottie Verne (Wolford) Kuhn.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris (Kuhn) Shaffer and husband, Edward.

Mr. Kuhn was a graduate of the Hyndman High School Class of ’53, playing varsity baseball and basketball, and enjoyed hunting as a young man.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army (1957-59), the Seabees Naval Construction Force (1963-67), and the Pennsylvania Air National Guard (1979-93) retiring with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant after having retired in 1987 from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company as a machinist.  He was a member of the Hyndman-Londonderry Lions Club and a life long member Gravel Pit United Methodist Church.  Ken served as a dispatcher for and crew member of the Hyndman Rescue Squad in its early years and with his wife, Ellie, was once a very active member of the Hy-Lo Lads & Lassies square dancing club.  He also served several terms on the Bedford County Board of Education.  He was an avid farmer, an extremely hard worker, a jack of all trades, and a great provider for his family.

Ken is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor (Smith) Kuhn; his brother, Donald Kuhn and wife, Jane, Cumberland; his children, Jennifer (Kuhn) Dawson and husband, Steven, Wellersburg; Kenneth Kuhn, Jr., Germantown, MD; Daniel Kuhn, Bedford; Elizabeth (Kuhn) Moore and husband, Tom, Arnold, MO; and Neil Kuhn and wife, Barbara, Gravel Pit.  Ken is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, Adam Dawson and wife, Shana; Seth Dawson and girlfriend Amanda Syverstad; Leah (Dawson) Sines and husband, Robert; Justin Moore; Sarah Kuhn; Stephen Kuhn and wife, Brittany; and Alexis Kuhn.  Ken also leaves behind his 6 great-grandchildren, Jacob Dawson, Nicholas Dawson, Mason Dawson, Conner Dawson, Ryley Sines, and Ava Sines.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Tuesday April 23, 2019 from 4 to 6 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 6 PM, with the Rev. Fred Zickefoose officiating.  Family and friends attending are invited to refreshments and fellowship following the service.
