Hyndman, PA – Lena Gertrude Pensyl, 95, of Hyndman went to be with the Lord Sunday December 23, 2018 at Cumberland Healthcare, on her mother’s birthday, December 23, 1903.

Born April 11, 1923 in Hyndman; she was a daughter of the late William Mervin and Helen Lucille (Bruck) DeVore. She was also preceded in death by her husband Raymond D. Pensyl and a son, K. Mervin Pensyl; a grandson, Joshua Hosselrode; and a sister, Ruth Miller.

Survived by sons, Stanley Pensyl and wife Joyce; Lynn Pensyl and wife Carle; daughter-in-law, Jane Pensyl all of Hyndman; a brother, Robert DeVore and wife Mary of Davis, IL; grandchildren, Matthew Pensyl of Waynesboro,  Thea Hosselrode and husband Marvin, Jill Clites and husband Kevin, Dr. Ryan Pensyl and wife Sharee, Tyler Pensyl and wife Julia, great grandchildren, Brandon Hosselrode and wife Grace, Jeffrey Hosselrode; Madison and Nicholas Clites, Isla and Aria Lena Pensyl; and several nieces and nephews.

Gertrude was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was a 1941 graduate of Hyndman High School. She helped at her father, Mervin DeVore’s Gulf Station. She worked in the office at Soloman Saw Mill and Dr. John Topper’s Medical Center. She sang and played the guitar for the radio station KDKA. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Bedford Springs chapter 41 where she served as Worthy Matron, Daughters of America and Daughters of Rebekah.  She enjoyed making quilts and afghans for her children and grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with an Order of Eastern Star service held at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Fred Zickefoose and Rev. Dr. Tomislav Dosch officiating. Viewing one hour prior to the funeral.

Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Gertrude’s memory to Grace United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cumberland Healthcare and her home care sitters for all of the care they provided during the last several years.
