Hyndman, PA – Lena Marion Shaffer, 86, of Hyndman went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at WMHS Regional Medical Center.

Born January 31, 1930 in Fossleville; she was a daughter of the late James Henry and Lena Vanira (Holler) Swauger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James “Jimmy” Shaffer in 2005; sisters, Sara Arnold, Dorothy Malloy, Eleanor Whitford, Wilma Bennett; brothers, James, Billy and Earl Swauger.

Survived by daughters, Vanira S. Wilkins and husband, Garry, of Manns Choice, PA, and Rebecca A. “Becky” Baker,  of Hyndman; grandchildren, Jessica Harrison and husband, Fred, Bedford, PA, Garren Wilkins and wife LaTisha; Kristin Wilkins, all  of Manns Choice, Jonathan Baker and wife, Sarah of Hyndman, and Eli Baker and partner Joe Snyder of Cumberland; great grandchildren, James and Laurel Harrison, Blake and Brent Wilkins, and another great grandson expected to arrive May 18th; step great grandchildren, Freddie and Catherine Harrison.

She was a life member of Christ Lutheran Church, Madley, where she served as President of the Women’s Group, member of the Altar Guild and organizer for many social events. She was also a strong supporter of Christian education.

For many years she worked as the Bookkeeper for Shaffer Brothers Lumber Company. She also worked at the Garment Factory in Cumberland for a short time. Marion was a talented needle worker, cake decorator and colored pencil artist.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Christ Lutheran Church, Madley, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with The Reverend Ryan K. Viands officiating.  Friends will be received at the church for one hour immediately prior to the funeral service.

Burial will follow at Lybarger Cemetery, Madley.

Family would like to thank, Laura Stevens, for the care she provided Marion.
