Lloyd Vernon Shaffer, 94, of Hyndman, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 9, 2021, at Nancy’s Personal Care Home in Osterburg.

Born March 8, 1927 in Hyndman, he was a son of the late Lloyd E. and Tolva (Miller) Shaffer. He is preceded in death by his wife, Wilma June (Bittner) Shaffer in 1994; sisters, Irene Dunbar, Winifred Christner, Mary Shaffer, and Philomene Bonner; brother, Ray Shaffer.

Survived by his son, Kevin V. Shaffer and wife Stacy of Manns Choice; grandson, Tanner Shaffer and wife Katlynn of Alum Bank, great grandson, Garrett Shaffer; brother, Arden Shaffer; sister, Jean McCoy both of Hyndman; many nieces and nephews.

Vernon served in the US Army during WWII from 1945-1947. He was a Structural Ironworker with the Ironworkers Local Union 568 in Cumberland. He was a proud union member for over 50 years. He was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hyndman VFW Oscar Jordan Post 7375, and Bedford Antique Car Club.  He drove bus for the Hyndman School District for many years. He was a lifelong farmer until the age of 91. He restored at WW II Ford Jeep that he would drive in many of the local parades and community events. He was a very good welder and plenty of his work can still be seen today in the Hyndman area.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Tuesday May 11, 2021 from 6 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday May 12, 2021 at 11 a.m. with Pastor James Espenshade officiating. Viewing one hour prior to the service.

Burial at Hyndman Cemetery, Hyndman with military honors by the Ft. Bedford Honor Guard.
